Driving toward Bigbury along the cliff top I could see the waves breaking a mile out to sea and I knew it was going to be challenging. It was low tide which meant a shadow from Burgh Island prevented any attempts to tackle the mast high monsters further out, just as well because it was virtually closed out as one of the guys found out when his mast snapped.

Started out nicely powered up on the K-Bay with the 4.7 playing on the inside getting some huge jumps before rapid chicken gybes before the huge walls of white water powering through the no wind zone. Then all hell broke loose. The tide was on its way in and the gap between Burgh Island and the shore started funneling the wind. Changed down to a smaller board but could not be bothered to change down sail size which was a mistake as the spray was now blowing side ways off the top of the waves. Had a couple of runs out with some insane jumps before getting hit by a violent gust mid air. My board was ripped from my feet and I ended up landing on my kit from 15ft jarring an ankle on the board and my ribs taking the impact of the boom.

I'm sitting here typing this nursing sore ribs and hoping its not going to keep me off the water. Would have been 5 stars if it had been an injury free day but an excellent (if insane) day after the previous frustrating weekend.
